Vocal Tips: Brett Manning - How To Sing “E”

hi, i´m a deep bass, and I use this variation of E in that region with really good results, very confortable… it really works…

but, how about 1 octave above…

narrow the vogal, and make this variation, etc.. but, do you have another hint to improve a great mix/chest sound above high C?

I already do the singing success Cd´s. and I´m have about 7 octaves in a good mix, but, I´m still in the “A” above male high C, I want to go far than that… maybe wistle someday…

I´m in Brazil… is dificult to reach answers…

HI, I’ve been doing the cds everyday for a while and I’ve been able to find my mix with no breaks and it’s really ecxiting, but I can’t realy apply it to a song, my mix gets too heady or I start singing like before, mainly in chest voice, like belting the songs, I would really like some guidance to apply the technique to songs. I’m from Argentina, Buenos Aires, I would go to Nashville if I lived closer!!!. Thanks.

I don’t get this. I can sing i or ee on a high note without too much issue. Surely the problem is of adjusting the vocal fold posture and choice of core tone production in the upper part of the range? I acknowledge that tongue position, ostensibly higher on the ee than other vowels, can destabilise the larynx, and since it will want to rise on the higher pitch this will tend to narrow the sound, but I don’t see how singing i will help except by giving a slightly lower tongue position? I suppose this would round the tone a little, but then you aren’t singing ee anymore! i is a short vowel which can be problematic on a long note anyway, and distinct from ee. Can you explain why and how this works in practice as I am quite confused?!

most likely you are singing eee and i using legit head voice. Since you are female I will assume this to be true as a more full sound (mix) will be more difficult. It is very good advice to sneak in to a ee from ih as this video shows. It doesn’t say the vowels are the same… it just means that one leads to the other. Ee needs to not be squeezed as can easily happen when more weight is added.

Head voice is much lighter and easier to do ALL vowels so it’s not fair to compare female and male legit to full out mixing.

I found this tip very helpful! Now, how about a tip about the word “love” at the end of a phrase. For some reason, I have trouble, especially if the note for the word “love” is to be held for any length of time - it doesn’t seem to sound very steady and strong.

Try narrowing love then expanding as your hold it.

put a cross between uh and oo if that makes sense.
