Lindsay Lohan Comes Out O’ The Closet
Lindsay Lohan has finally admitted to the nature of the relationship she’s had going on with DJ Samantha Ronson for months now. Whew! Now we know.
It was in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, which the magazine published online on Monday. “I think it’s pretty obvious who I’m seeing,” Lohan told the interviewer, carefully avoiding the name even so. “I think it’s no shock to anyone that it’s been going on for quite some time. … She’s a wonderful person and I love her very much.”
Unusually deep
The fashion mag went unusually deep into the subject of the actress’s sexuality. The interviewer pressed again, asking her if she’d been with a girl before–getting an “I don’t know, maybe” by way of reply.
Then she was asked if it embarrassed her, being attracted to a woman. “No,” she said. Would she call herself a bisexual? “Maybe. Yeah.” A lesbian? “No.”
“I don’t want to classify myself,” she said then. “First of all, you never know what’s going to happen - tomorrow, in a month, a year from now, five years from now. I appreciate people, and it doesn’t matter who they are, and I feel blessed to be able to feel comfortable enough with myself that I can say that.”
She wants to get married
The actress went on, rather inexplicably, to assert that she wants to get married “eventually,” but that she doesn’t know whether it’ll be to a man or woman.
Her family, she says, is supportive of her lifestyle. “It’s never really come up as an issue,” she said. “We’re close; we’ve been through a lot. They’re supportive of me whether I’m with a guy or a girl. They’re just supportive of me as a person.”
Advice for her 14-year-old sister
She mentioned that her 14-year-old sister had asked about the relationship. In what seemed like a slip, she mentioned Ronson by name. “Ali’s known Samantha for a really long time. And she’s like, ‘Whatever it is, I support you. I probably won’t ever do what it is you’re doing, but I’m happy for you.’ Ali’s very mature. I’ve told her that it’s okay to like a boy or a girl if you’re comfortable with it and it’s something you believe you want to do. And I told her not to be afraid of who she wants to be.”
Lohan had given her reason for keeping mum on the name earlier in the interview: “I feel like it jinxes it. It’s hard. The second I start talking about whomever I’m seeing, a month or two later it’s failed.” Oh, well.
Last year’s five-month chunk of rehab
The 22-year-old actress also mentioned last year’s five-month chunk of rehab time. She went because “I was going to clubs all the time, and it was not OK. I was so alone. It made me not focus on what I was doing,” she said.
“I was living here [at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood] for almost two years. Who blows that much money on a hotel?” She added, “I could have bought a house!”
Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan, is the sole family member who seems in opposition of her current relationship. He blogged rather harshly about it in August, prompting an angry reply from his offspring. They’re still not getting on well, she said.
“I would love to say it’s surprising”
“I would love to say it’s surprising, but it’s not. It doesn’t bother me as much as embarrass and hurt me. And put a knife in my back,” she said about his public behavior. “And it’s hard because I was flipping through channels and someone on E! called him a loser. And that’s my f—ing father! He’s not a bad guy. He’s just making bad choices.”
Never one to lay idle, any more than the rest of these pretty young things, she’s got a new movie coming out. Labor Pains will be out in 2009; it’s about a girl who pretends to be knocked up in order to avoid being fired, then tries to keep it up to cash in on all the special treatment.
It won’t be… awful…maybe.
And even if it is-she’ll keep on keepin’ on, chugging em’ out. “I don’t really worry,” she said. “I’m a fighter. I’m up for a challenge, and I won’t settle.”
