Bono is scoring a Broadway musical–in which our beloved Peter Parker leaps from the big screen to the stage. Spider-Man has been officially marked as the most expensive production in the history of theatre.

“We wanted a team that could really present Spider-Man in the best way, and in a new way - who had both expertise and a love for the character,” said Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel.

Directed by Julie Taymor of The Lion King, the show has a $40 million budget, and will allegedly cost $1 million per week once it opens.

The budget might get cut down to $35 million-according to the New York Post, the show would have to run for about 8,000 years in a typical Broadway theater to make that money back.

Where is it all going?

Where is it all going? The papers are calling Taymor a “spendthrift,” and it’s hard to argue with that kind of money getting thrown around. “There’s a set designer and a costume designer and a projections designer and a fight designer and an aerial designer and a graphic designer and a film designer,” says the Post. They quote someone as saying that “the Playbill is going to have 18 pages of designer bios.”

So it’s not all going to Bono.

Rehearsals began in July, apparently, and the public is assured that the show will open next year.
